Amy MowbrayOne of the nice things about moving to a new area is building up a local clientele.

I get quite a lot of anecdotal interest when the topic of what I do for a living comes up, and I’m frequently asked for my business card. Never think that a web designer doesn’t need a business card: for a freelancer it is indispensable.

Luckily, I had cards made up using the image at the top of this site.

The beautiful shot of Sydney Harbour with my name in skywriting seems to really strike a chord with people, and I was fortunate to obtain the services of a highly skilled printer in Bulli who came up with a great paper stock that is firm, flexible, smooth in the hand and gives the colours a remarkable depth.

My latest site – and first Illawarra site – is for local (Wollongong area) photographer Amy Mowbray.

The main aim is to attract new work, of course, and the best way is to show off some existing work.

Any website that focuses on photography has to wrestle with issues such as file compressions, image quality, colour management, image dimensions, loading speeds and file formats, and indeed they all provided me with some headaches along the way.

In the end, though, I kept it simple and came up with a what I think is a pretty good site.
